

Leucoderma is presence of the whitish or depigmented patches on an otherwise normal skin. It is actually a cosmetic problem and, generally, does not affect any internal organic functions or metabolism.
Leucoderma is in fact a rare skin disease characterized by white spots and patches. The white patch or spot all there is called as leucoderma and when it occurs without any preceding disease it is called Vitiligo.
Leucoderma in the literal term means white skin. This kind of condition is actually mistaken for another skin disease i.e. leprosy.Under this skin condition, some certain parts of the skin gradually lose color leaving behind white patches. This occurs just due to loss of melanin, a dark pigment which gives color to skin. It may go begin with a small patch but slowly and steadily spreads throughout the whole body. This is not a very dangerous or contagious skin disease.The actual cause is still unknown though numerous studies have been conducted right on the subject. Some of the perceived causes are emotional stress and hereditary factors, worms, sunburns and physical illness. This skin condition can be evenly aggravated due to diseases like hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, pernicious anemia and Addison's disease.
Causes :
• In most cases, it is totally idiopathic (specific causative factor cannot be detected).
• Fungal or viral infection.
• Irregular diet and deeds Allergy due to specific foods or medicines.
• Heredity, in some cases.
Symptoms:
• Whitish or depigmented patches scattered just all over the skin.
• The patches are associated with itching, and the occasional redness.
• The patches increase in size and in the intensity (40-60% of the total body skin is depigmented in some cases).
• The condition may do lead to malignancy of the melanin, which is the coloring pigment of the skin.
Suggestions :
• Local application of some oils extracted from the seeds of Bakuchi (). But it should be only detoxified and purified before use.
• Powdered purified corals (Rasamanikya) and animal horn (Mrigashrunga) in a 250-mg dosage, thrice in day..
• A decoction of the Rubia cordifolia (Manjishtha) in a 30-ml dosage, twice, daily.
• Generic herbominaral preparations like Maha Tikta Ghrita, Arogyavardhini Vati and Pancha Tikta Ghrita can be taken, only after consulting an Ayurvedic physician.
Hebs Can Be Used :
• Local application of some amount of juice of holy basil and limejuice on the affected area.
• A paste of basil leaves with a clove of garlic should be only applied on the affected area.
• A paste of radish seeds in vinegar should beonly applied on the affected area.
• Juice of the leaves of goosefoot should be applied on the affected area.
